August 2026 Journals

Welcome to August 2026!

Another year moves along, and with it comes another beautiful monsoon season in the Nilgiris. August has always been a month of mist-covered hills, overflowing streams, cherished memories and the anticipation of reunions among Stanes alumni spread across the world.

🌧 Weather in Coonoor
Coonoor continues to enjoy its characteristic southwest monsoon weather. Frequent showers, cool temperatures ranging between approximately 14°C and 21°C, drifting mist and lush green hills have once again transformed the Nilgiris into one of India's most picturesque landscapes. Visitors are advised to expect intermittent rain, occasional fog and slippery hill roads while enjoying the beauty of the season.

💧 Water Situation – Karnataka & Tamil Nadu
Although the southwest monsoon has brought welcome rainfall to several regions, concerns over water availability continue in parts of southern India. Reservoir levels and rainfall distribution remain uneven across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, with some districts recovering well while others continue to face localized drought-like conditions. Farmers continue to closely monitor rainfall patterns as the agricultural season progresses.

🌊 Cauvery Basin
The Cauvery remains central to the livelihoods of millions across both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. As every monsoon season, reservoir storage, inflows and rainfall continue to influence water-sharing discussions. Timely rains across the catchment areas remain the key factor in ensuring adequate irrigation, drinking water supply and maintaining harmony between the basin states.

🌍 Around the World
Internationally, the geopolitical landscape continues to evolve. Developments in the Gulf region remain important for global energy markets, international trade and the large Indian expatriate community living there. Likewise, the Russia–Ukraine conflict continues to influence world politics, energy supplies, food security and economic conditions. The hope everywhere remains for diplomacy, stability and a lasting peaceful resolution to ongoing conflicts.

Despite the challenges around us, life at Stanes continues to bring people together through shared memories, photographs, friendships and stories spanning generations. Every old class photograph tells a story, every familiar face rekindles a friendship, and every contribution helps preserve our school's rich heritage.

We warmly invite all alumni to continue identifying classmates, sharing memories, contributing photographs and recording the remarkable history of Stanes Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Coonoor for future generations.

July 2026 Posts

July 2026 is here! The monsoon has hit the country in most areas, global football fever is at its absolute peak, and we celebrate monumental milestones tracing back through our elite alumni families.

🌧️ Current Monsoon Prediction for India

According to the official predictive frames from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon footprint across India features varied intensities for July 2026. Standard active spells are moving consistently through central zones, northwest belts, and the northeast, bringing welcome relief alongside typical seasonal cloud magic across our home regions.

Football World Cup Fever

Football fever has completely gripped the global stage! The historic, expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup 2026 is in full throttle. This July, the competition charges directly into the highly anticipated knockout stages and action-packed Round of 32 matches, building incredible momentum ahead of the final world championship match on July 19th.

🎖️ Grand Alumni Milestones: The Seth Family Legacy

It is an extraordinary moment of pride for our broader Nilgiris community as General Dhiraj Seth has officially assumed his role as the Chief of the Indian Army Staff (COAS)! An illustrious alumnus of the neighboring Lawrence School, Lovedale, General Seth has scaled to the very apex of military leadership. He is the First Alumni of this institution to scale the highest position in the indian army.

This immense tradition of national service traces a proud lineage from his father, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Krishna Mohan Seth. Lt Gen K.M. Seth is a highly decorated veteran of the Indian Army who has close ties to our hills; as a Brigadier, he was prominently posted at the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington. Retiring from the military in 1997 as the Adjutant General of the Indian Army, he went on to serve with great distinction in governance as the state Governor of Tripura, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.

The family's deep, beloved roots within our own campus are fondly remembered: General Seth's mother, Mrs Veena Seth  served with incredible dedication for years as the chemistry teacher and the housemaster in charge of David House at Stanes High School, Coonoor.

This spectacular dedication to the defense of the nation extends beautifully to his younger brother, Rear Admiral Ravnish Seth. A proud alumnus of Stanes High School, Coonoor, Rear Admiral Ravnish Seth is actively steering critical maritime defense operations, presently holding his strategic command appointment as the Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Ship Repair Yard at the Karwar Naval Base.
