Greetings from the Blue Mountains
As September 2026 draws to a close, we extend warm greetings to Stanesians across the globe. The changing seasons once again remind us that while years pass swiftly, memories of school days in the misty hills of Coonoor remain timeless.
Across India, the southwest monsoon has broadly completed its journey, leaving behind a mixed climatic picture. Several northern and northeastern regions received above-normal rainfall, while parts of western and central India experienced intermittent dry spells. Agriculture, water reservoirs and ecosystems continue to reflect the increasing variability of seasonal weather patterns that have become characteristic of recent years.
In Karnataka, much of the state benefited from moderate to good monsoon activity. The Malnad region, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru and the Western Ghats remained lush and vibrant. Bengaluru and surrounding districts experienced alternating periods of rain and sunshine, providing welcome relief from summer temperatures while also presenting familiar urban challenges associated with heavy downpours.
Tamil Nadu now stands on the threshold of the Northeast Monsoon season. Reservoir levels across many districts have shown encouraging improvement compared with previous years, although local variations remain. As always, attention turns towards preparations for the arrival of the retreating monsoon, which plays such a vital role in the state's agricultural and water security.
The Nilgiris, our beloved homeland, continue to display their unique charm. The hills have remained cloaked in shades of emerald green following seasonal rainfall. Tea gardens are flourishing, streams and waterfalls continue to rejuvenate the landscape, and the familiar blankets of mist continue to drift across Coonoor, Ooty and Kotagiri. While occasional heavy showers and localized disruptions were reported during the season, the district has largely retained its natural splendour, welcoming residents and visitors alike to enjoy the beauty of the Blue Mountains.
Around the world, September 2026 has been marked by significant developments in technology, sustainability, space exploration and international cooperation. Advances in artificial intelligence, renewable energy initiatives and scientific research continue to shape the future. At the same time, communities worldwide remain focused on environmental stewardship, resilience and the preservation of natural heritage for future generations.
For our alumni in Europe and North America, autumn colours are beginning to appear, while friends in Australia, New Zealand and the Southern Hemisphere are welcoming the promises of spring. Wherever you may be, may this season bring good health, happiness and opportunities to reconnect with old friends and cherished memories.
The Chennai Chapter continued its tradition of fellowship during the past months, and several informal alumni gatherings were reported from different parts of India and overseas. We encourage members to share photographs, stories, milestones and memories so that the Stanes spirit remains vibrant across generations.
As always, we invite Stanites everywhere to send us your recollections, photographs, achievements and anecdotes. Every contribution helps preserve the remarkable history of our school and strengthens the enduring bonds of the Stanes family.
Alumni Bloggers our friends in the Western and Southern Hemisphere are about to set their clocks behind by an hour, here goes our clocking for the next innings...Winter is just going to show her cold fingers around, skies and sledges and the snow clearing equipment get waxed and oiled, we wait for hidden stories and Yarns of yesteryears .
